Supergrip have successfully completed the design of waterstop seals for an 8” x 14” NS pipe in pipe system. The upgraded seal design accommodated the fusion welded carrier pipe and a design pressure of only 12 bar.g. In addition to the waterstop seals provided, Supergrip were also engaged to supply 2-off bespoke pipeline isolation end caps.

The End Caps were a reusable design, which enabled the inner pipe to be pressurized a number of cycles during the spooling operation. The Caps were designed to suit a test pressure of 150 bar.g which resulted in the Cap having to withstand an axial force in excess of 55mT. Also incorporated was an inner pipe pressure and vent facility.

Sheldon Jeffrey, Operations Manager at Supergrip, said, “We are really pleased to work with this client to deliver both the Waterstop Seals and Pipe End Caps. The Pipe End Caps themselves were designed specifically for the application. There were size limitations that were challenging during the design process. However our team have many years experience in providing bespoke subsea sealing solutions and we are delighted to say that the finished product worked perfectly. As with all of our projects we worked closely with our client during the execution phase. A full suite of documentation was provided including design reports, pre-production information, test procedures and test reports”

Johnny Molloy, Senior Project Engineer at Supergrip, said, “This was an interesting project for us to be involved in, and we created an excellent working relationship with the client. Both myself and one of our technicians supervised the installation of the equipment at the spoolbase in Norway covering the 24 hour working window. Im pleased to say that everything went to plan with all work being completed within a three day envelope with very positive client feedback on our equipment and performance”.
